April 15, 2003 - Industrial Production And Capacity Utilization - Industrial production fell 0.5 percent in March and is now estimated to have edged down 0.1 percent in February. Manufacturing output declined 0.2 percent in March, but excluding motor vehicles and parts, it was little changed for the second consecutive month. Output at utilities fell 4.1 percent after having increased noticeably in the past two months. April 1, 2003 - Working Paper 2003-2, "Under-specified Models and Detection of Discrimination in Mortgage Lending," Jason Dietrich - This study examines how the use of variables customarily omitted from fair lending models would have affected estimates of the effect of race on mortgage decisions, predictions of the probability of denial, and identification of outliers for manual review. April 1, 2003 - James E. Gilleran, Director of the Office of Thrift Supervision, has been named Chairman of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council for a two-year term beginning April l. Director Gilleran succeeds Donald E. Powell, Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The Council also named NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar, as its new Vice Chairman.
