June 29, 2004 - Implications of Alternative Operational Risk
Modeling Techniques - Quantification of operational risk has
received increased attention with the inclusion of an explicit
capital charge for operational risk under the new Basle proposal.
The proposal provides significant flexibility for banks to use
internal models to estimate their operational risk, and the
associated capital needed for unexpected losses.

Defrauding Investors and Bank and Securities Regulators - FDIC

a fax request that appears to have been sent by the FDIC. The

Evolving Demands of Payment System - The Federal Reserve Banks today
announced a strategy to accommodate the evolution of the nation's
payments system from paper check processing to electronic
processing, a development driven by a significant broad-based change
in user preference.

June 16, 2004 - Industrial Production And Capacity Utilization -
Industrial production advanced 1.1 percent in May after having risen
0.8 percent in April. At 116.9 percent of its 1997 average, output
was 6.3 percent higher than its level in May 2003. Manufacturing
output increased 0.9 percent in May and was just 0.3 percent below
the peak reached in June 2000. Output at utilities increased 3.3
percent, a gain reflecting unseasonably warm weather, while
production at mines edged down 0.4 percent. Capacity utilization for
total industry increased to 77.8 percent, a rate that is 3.7
percentage points above its value in May 2003 but still 3.3
percentage points below its 1972-2003 average.

Collection During 2004: Federal Reserve Board Regulation C, which
implements the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, has been revised in
several ways that affect applications or loans on which final action

June 15, 2004 - Guidance on the Uniform Classification of Assets and
Appraisal of Securities Held by Banks and Thrifts - The federal bank
and thrift regulatory agencies are jointly issuing the "Uniform
Agreement on the Classification of Assets and Appraisal of
Securities Held by Banks and Thrifts." This replaces the policy of
the same title last revised in 1979. Substantive changes are in the
appraisal of securities portion of the policy. These changes reflect
current accounting guidance and clarify existing examination
policies.
