June 16, 2004 - Industrial Production And Capacity Utilization - Industrial production advanced 1.1 percent in May after having risen 0.8 percent in April. At 116.9 percent of its 1997 average, output was 6.3 percent higher than its level in May 2003. Manufacturing output increased 0.9 percent in May and was just 0.3 percent below the peak reached in June 2000. Output at utilities increased 3.3 percent, a gain reflecting unseasonably warm weather, while production at mines edged down 0.4 percent. This replaces the policy of the same title last revised in 1979. Substantive changes are in the appraisal of securities portion of the policy.
