seeking to hedge the interest rate risk on their issues of trust preferred stock

Derivatives Volume Falls Below $50 Trillion - U.S. commercial banks saw earnings
from cash instruments and derivatives activities drop $805 million, to $2.65
billion, in the fourth quarter of 2001, while the notional value of derivatives
